Sorry for the delay in getting this post out. I’ve been working on a project, and clients must come before blogging!
I received a call from a colleague this week regarding a website for a company that had signed on for Verizon’s Website Builder service. This is a template based program for do it yourself-ers. My concern was that it may be "idiot-proof" and that we would be unable to use FTP to copy our own files to the server. This is apparently not the case, though I haven’t tried it yet, but the mere existence of this project demonstrates that even the set-ups designed to be foolproof may not always be, and that even if they are, once you get started you may find you want more than a pre-packaged plan. There may be things you want to do that are possible with this service but you don’t know how to accomplish them, and figuring it all out may turn into more than a side job. Most times it is just a smarter use of your time to hire someone who specializes than to spend your time learning something new with the objective of saving money. Maybe you can be a Jack of all trades, but you know what they say about Jack…
If we get this project, I'll report back on this service Verizon "offers." (Offer always sound to me like it's free, and this isn't free.)
